Spiny lobster season begins on August 1st, and we’re getting prepared with new processing procedures to ensure the safety of our employees, to eliminate any possible COVID-19 contamination.
Preparing our plant for the upcoming season includes preventative maintenance, testing of equipment not used since last season, such as the grading conveyor and the refrigeration systems, new paint throughout the facility, tune ups on equipment, food-grade grease on all wheels and bearings, inspection of all light fixtures and other pre-season preparations.
Tropic spent the year building our new plant Starlight Seafoods, in Abaco, Bahamas. New freezers were installed, along with walls, ceilings, and floors, due to damages sustained from hurricane Dorian. Consequently, we’ve made contact with the local fishermen, to ensure they all have the necessary supplies for their upcoming journey to sea.
Training events have been scheduled for new and returning staff, to be held the week prior to season opening. These include but are not limited to personal hygiene, sanitation, COVID-19 regulations such as social distancing, face masks and hand washing, HACCP, good manufacturing practices (GMP) and standard sanitary operating procedures (SSOP) .
We are grateful and looking forward to beginning production again, with plans to hit the ground running!
